Fourth class have been studying the Great Famine of Ireland in History .They also read the novel "Under the Hawthorn Tree" in class. Today the children visited the famine graveyard in Sligo and learned about the role of the workhouse which once stood on the site of St. John's Hospital. It was a very sad but informative morning as we remembered all the adults and children who were buried there during the Great Famine.
