Fourth Class have been very busy
Clay Sculptures
Fourth class enjoyed working with clay in a recent Art lesson. Each child was given the task to sculpt a clay head which reflected an emotion or feeling that was personal to them. The children worked wonders using their hands and clay tools to produce beautiful sculptures. A thoroughly enjoyable and creative afternoon was had by all.
Bridge Building
The class was asked to imagine they were the architect assigned to design the 'Eastern Bridge' which will cross the Garavogue River in the near future. Before putting pen to paper the children studied bridges from around the world for inspiration. When the design stage was complete the pupils constructed their bridges using marshmallows and spaghetti. Each bridge was tested for stability using weights at the end of the lesson. Well done to all the children for their amazing designs and constructions.
Maths Week
We enjoyed a range of fun mathematical activities and challenges during Maths Week. All children enjoyed their introduction to coding on the school iPads . During this lesson the children had to give instructions to a robot to complete different tasks. They also investigated Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man theory which states that the span of a man's arms is equal to his height, the hand is one tenth of a man's total height and the foot is one sixth of a man's height. The children enjoyed developing their measuring skills during this lesson. In addition, the children carried out Maths challenges on the Izak 9 cubes which were borrowed from Sligo Education Centre. A fun week was had by all.
