Fourth Class Celebrate the Life and Times of W.B. Yeats.

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree, And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made...

Inspired by the poetry of Yeats, fourth class set off on a walking tour of Sligo.  Our first stop was at the Yeats Society Building where we were welcomed by Susan O'Keeffe.  We listened to a very interesting and informative talk about Yeats's early life.  The children were fascinated with a pair of glasses that she passed around. These glasses were 'pince-nez' which literally translated means 'to pinch the nose'. The writing desk of Yeats's sister, Lily was also on show as well as some other interesting artifacts.  The highlight of the visit was when the children got to recite the poetry they had been learning in class and singing 'Down by the Salley Gardens'.
Having worked up an apetite and thirst, it was the perfect time to call into W.B.'s cafe.  We received a friendly welcome from Aisling, who runs the coffee shop and the Oyster experience. We learned all about oysters and how they are farmed, harvested and prepared for market.  It was interesting to learn that the Gore-Booth family in Lissadell House (where Yeats stayed) had been oyster farmers.
Our final stop was at the statue of Yeats outside the Ulster Bank where the children posed for a class photo.
An enjoyable and informative morning was had by all.
