Fifth and Sixth Classes trip to Carrowmore
Senior Classes travel back in time.
On Thursday 26th September Fifth and Sixth classes enjoyed an inspiring trip to the Carrowmore Complex. Our guide Linda gave us an informative and interesting tour of some of the monuments on the site. She outlined the progression of passage tombs from early examples to the more sophisticated cairn located in the centre of the complex. The pupils learned about the lives and beliefs of our ancestors from the Mesolithic and Neolithic eras. Linda gave us insight into burial rituals and customs of the time and also recounted myths associated with the surrounding area. It was particularly intriguing to find that Carrowmore was not only a prehistoric cemetery but also a place of celebration. Photographs are located in our gallery of the tour.
