Exploring Bridges in First Class
When a river runs through it, you need a few bridges. First class have a room with a view and enjoy watching wildlife on the Garavogue river and pedestrians on the footbridge that links Riverside to The Mall. We have learned that this bridge is named after John Fallon who was once mayor of Sligo town. His son, Seán, was a talented footballer who played soccer for clubs in Scotland.
First class were well rested after their Easter holidays and so we did a walking tour of Sligo to take a
closer look at beam, truss and arch bridges. We discovered that Hyde Bridge was named after our first president but was previously called Victoria Bridge and the name of the monarch is still visible on this structure. Sligo’s campaign for a new bridge to alleviate traffic congestion continues. It’s very possible that this future bridge may bear the name of a budding engineer among First Class!
